Western Mass. Horse Judging

Rachel, Brie-anna, and Jen went to the Western Massachusetts horse judging competition on November 21. It was a long day, with very difficult classes to judge. In the end, all 3 members placed for the county and overall. Rachel won 1st in the county and 4th in western mass; Brie-anna won 2nd place in the county and 5th in western mass; and Jen won 3rd place in the county and 6th place over all. The next event is Horse Bowl on December 12th, and we hope to have more members with us for that competition.

Eastern National 4H Horse Round Up

Brianna MacNeil just returned from the National Hippology competition in Kentucky. As a team, Massachusetts came in 17th out of 24 states. Brianna did a great job getting to the national level of the hippology competition, and the club is very proud of her. Please join us in congratulating her and her team on such a great job!

4H New Englands Update

Recently one of our members, Brianna MacNeil, went to Maine for the 4H New England's Hippology competition. Four girls from around Massachusetts competed as a team at Maine. Together, they came in 3rd out of all of New England. Congratulations to Massachusetts!
On November 5th the team will leave for the 4H National's competition in Kentucky. Please join us in wishing the team luck!

Regionals, States, & Recent News

Four of our members competed in the Regionals 4H show in July. Among the four of them, they brought home many ribbons and had a great time. We also had three horse lovers who helped out with running the show, and competed in photography and poster contests, and a model horse show. The horse lovers also were a great help when it came to tacking up the horses and getting every one ready for their classes.

One member, Rachel, entered to compete in the States horse show in September. She ended up with Reserve Champion in her pony games division, as well as Reserve Champion in her pony riding division. Congratulations Rachel!

Re-enrollment forms were distributed at States, and given out at the last meeting. The club received a grant that allows the re-enrollment fee to be $25 each instead of $50. You can make out a check to Mane-I-Acs 4H for $25 and get it to Deana before November 16th so she can pay the fee as a group.

Also given out at the last meeting were the 4H food drive collection bags. The collection starts October 4th. If you have not received a bag for food donations or a re-enrollment form, please see Deana so she can give you one.

Recent Updates

First off, Brianna recently found out that she will compete in the National competition on Kentucky this November. Before Nationals she will compete in the New England round up in Maine.

Next, we have a few new members who have just recently joined. Their names are Lily Psholka and Sam Tuttle. Please join me in welcoming them.

Just recently our club participated in the Southwick Memorial Day parade. It was a lot of fun and was a good opportunity to honor our country.

4H State Round-Up Results!

Saturday, April 25:
Hippology -
Rachel, as a part of the Hampden County group, came in 1st for juniors in all of Massachusetts! Congratulations Rachel, and every one else in the Hampden county group!

Brianna came in 5th for all of Massachusetts, which means that she is an alternate for nationals. If some one drops out she can compete at nationals in Kentucky. Great job, and good luck Brianna!

Sunday, April, 26:
Horse Judging-
Ashlyn and Brianna competed in the 4H horse judging competition today. They had to go to a barn 20 minutes away from the hotel, called Wish Me Luck Stables. There, they judged 3 riding classes and 2 in hand classes. The classes were hunter under saddle, western pleasure, hunt seat equitation with pattern, appaloosa in hand, and hunter in hand. The classes were very hard to judge, but they did as much as they could. Later, they returned to the hotel ballrooms to give their reasons for placing the classes to the judges. The classes that they had to give reasons for were hunter under saddle and hunter in hand.
Brianna ended up coming in 9th for all of Massachusetts, so congratulations to her!

Welcome New Members

We recently welcomed Theresa Carmel and Makailah Desharnais to the club. We hope you will have fun in our club. Thanks for joining!

Mane-I-Acs Community Service Report

On the 14th and 20th of January, the Mane-I-Acs 4-H Horse Club of Southwick, Massachusetts, served dinner to approximately 150 and 120 needy people, respectively, at Christ Church Cathedral  in Springfield. The Mane-I-Acs donated their time to the Loaves and Fishes program, which is part of the Springfield Open Pantry. Each year, the Mane-I-Acs participate in four to five community service projects. This is the third year the Mane-I-Acs have donated their time to Loaves and Fishes. If you are interested in serving, you can contact Darleen St. Jacques at the Open Pantry, (413) 731-5668.
